Right now the circles are a place holder. The height of each new interface structure varies based on the population density at 4 access points from the terminals. As the intensity increases, nearby interface structures expand proportionally allowing for interstitial residence.

I could go either way.

Using arrays of tension cables a lightweight interstitial space rests between the two structural platforms. When not in use the platforms collapse.

Looking at an single day I complied all the incoming and outgoing flights to understand the fluctuation of people at LAX. In addition there are approximately 50,000 employees. I will assume that the job flow is directly related to the passenger flow.

Shelter as Interface

In Los Angeles people identify themselves by their car and modes of communication. Gradients of mobility and communication fluctuate throughout the city during the course of the day. As these defining flows are becoming more international, the airport provides and ideal location to explore new possibilities for a 5th Ecology.

For the nomadic traveler of the 5th Ecology, shelter is merely the interface between these two gradients. Movement, plugging in, Movement, plugging in. A place of rest at the airport is about efficiency. Space is adjusted to the number of users and their mode of transportation. During times of mobility when the shelter is not needed it collapses for upkeep and unplugs. There is a fluctuating gradient of open and closed shelters based on the ratio of incoming to outgoing flights, delay times, and the passing of day to night. A day a the airport flows with people as if 50 days pass in one day.

Has anyone been able to get excel to import? I cannot get the tutorial GCT files to work either. I tried both the workflow example and another I found in the example files. Any ideas?
