Fascinated by the ordinary, the mosquito, a hated creature is also quite remarkable. One of the few creatures that practice hemotophagy (sucking blood) to survive. Actually it is just the female who feeds on blood who needs the iron and proteins to provide nutrients for her eggs. What is most amazing is how perfectly the mosquito is designed for this one task in its survival. It has long thin legs that allow it to negotiate uneven terrain of animals skin, light weight to remain undetected and virtually no space is wasted in the body as the mosquito seems to be able to fill its entire abdomen with blood until the body, once black or brown now bright red. The long thin mouth is a perfect needle for the incision and the mosquito’s saliva acts as an anti-coagulant to prevent the host animals blood from clotting. The sense the world through no just through a visual capacity but like other nocturnal creatures, the mosquito uses an addition sense; it detects CO2 emitted from animals as well as an animal pheromone. The greatest downfall for the mosquito is the high pitched buzzing noise foreshadowing its intentions.
